Balochistan covering 47% landmass of Pakistan located at a geostrategic location has a large tract of cultivable fertile land, making it a promising area with diverse potential for agriculture production and investment.
Currently, 3.22 Million ha is under cultivation whereby a large landmass if approx. 3.83 Million ha is available for cultivation.
Balochistan is suitable for growing all kinds of crops including Wheat, rice, cotton, pulses, oilseed crops, and kinds of fruits including grapes, cherry and almonds, peach, pomegranate, apricot, apple, and dates. It is worthwhile to mention that due to the diverse climate, Balochistan produces all kinds of vegetables around the year.

Corporate Farming

Vast tract of highly fertile land is available with the province which can be leased out to the interested parties with incentive for establishment agriculture commercial farms

Cold storage

Cold storages are in high demand for keeping fruits and other products for longer period. There is a vital need for speedy and refrigerated transportation of perishable commodities such as Apples, Cherries, Grapes, Plums, Peaches, Tomatoes, etc.  to capture national as well as international market by reducing the amount of waste and in lengthening the timeframe for marketing at opportune times in Punjab, Karachi, Islamabad, and possible exports.Balochistan currently lacks cool chains and cold storages which results in the spoilage of perishable items such as fruits and vegetables.  Balochistan has a conducive environment for the potential investor to opt such businesses. Investors are invited to invest in this area.

Food Processing

A large tract of land, especially in upland district of Balochistan are very famous for their deciduous fruits production; however, there are no back-end industries where these fruits could be processed and high value food products could be produced.

Value addition in different fruits and vegetables is another potential are available awaiting private investors. a wide range of product like jam, jellies, juice, syrups, paste, ketchups can successfully be made from the crops grown in the province. Reputed firms already in business may be encouraged to initiate joint ventures with local investors to avail the marketable brands.

It has also been observed that improving value chain especially horticulture value chains have competitive advantage in Balochistan especially for fruits and vegetable such as apples, grapes, apricots, dates and tomato. Investor and food companies may be invited for venture with the farmers for improving production, product quality, processing, added value activities and marketing.  

Tunnel Farming

The climate of Balochistan, makes a very suitable place for high value tunnel farming. A farming technique which require comparatively less initial capital investment but promises high financial and economic returns on investments. The department of agriculture has already tapped sources from federal government in generalization of this precision farming technique for growing high value, low delta vegetables, spices and herbs. Investment in this area may be invited.

Olive Cultivation

There are several agriculture pockets in Balochistan which are highly suitable for olive plantation. It has been pragmatically analyzed that olives produced in Balochistan are of high nutritious quality and oil content. The high oil content of olive fruit produced in Balochistan is an assurance of the high financial returns to the investor; thus, making it a fruit crop which can be used for corporate farming.

Cotton Cultivation

Balochistan’s cotton has nationally been acclaimed as organic cotton with added qualities of long staple, high luster and contamination free.  Investors can be invited to invest in cotton cultivation and using high end value chain processes may produce cotton of international quality and value.

Fodder production

Balochistan being blessed with 5 different agro-cultural zone is place where year-round production of fodder can be ensured, which could be used for provinces livestock but also could be exported in gulf countries where demand for green fodder is much higher.

Fertilizer and Pesticides Industry

There are no fertilizer and pesticides production industry in Balochistan whereas, such a business if established in Balochistan shall not only will be service to the farmers of the province but also an export venture to the bordering countries of Balochistan
