Livestock raising is the centuries old occupation of the people residing in Balochistan province. Livestock is one of the major important sectors of the Province housing about 20% of the national stock.The Livestock contributes 55% of Agriculture value added, 11.4% of National GDP of Pakistan and more than 47% in the economy of Balochistan. Balochistan produces many precious livestock breeds. The biodiversity of the provincial animal genetic resources play very pivotal role in the economy of the province and each breed has its own characteristics and socioeconomic importance in poverty reduction and food security.

Organic Meat

Balochistan is rich with indigenous breeds for mutton which is preferred over the other breeds of country due to its taste and tender fiber.Modern interventions such as modern slaughterhouse, meat processing and packing unit, have a lot of potential to serve as food security not only for the people of Pakistan but also to be exported for international trade.

Hides and Skins

Currently, there are no tanneries in Balochistan. Therefore, all hides and skins produced in Balochistan as well as from Afghanistan and Iran are taken to Sindh and Punjab provinces for processing.Tanneries can be operated efficiently on modern techniques in Balochistan, the canal irrigated areas, like Naseerabad and Jafferabad, have got excellent potential for this industry, which will provide jobs and generating livelihood.

Camel meat and Meat processing unit

Balochistan Province having approximately 41% of camel population of the Pakistan.Two schemes of camel milk processing unit at Musakhail and Washuk are already in ongoing Status in current PSDP Program at a Cost of Rs. 50.00 million each.Camel milk can be processed in ultra-high temperature processing (UHT) or pasteurized. Thus, can marketed nationally and internationally in tetra packs.Camel meat has also a great potential of export to gulf countries in the scenario of CPEC and Gwadar Development in Balochistan.

Wool Industry

Wool processing is highly valuable activity. the quality of wool produced in Balochistan is of carpet quality.Better shearing and awareness of its processing in to grading and sorting will give high profit.Private sectors are invited to invest in provincial small industries for carpet making in order to have high returns through exports.

Milk and Dairy Products

There are maximum number of dairy cattle in Quetta, Pishin, Jafferabad and Naseerabad.Dairy Farms around peri urban areas can be setup for supply fresh milk and its byproduct on large scale. It is highly preferable for the private investors to establish milk supply chains and invest in milk chilling centers in order to increase milk supply which has a great potential in local as well as foreign markets.

Commercial Broiler Production

There are not a many commercial poultry enterprise in Balochistan except few medium to large layer and broiler farms concentrated in Hub area of Lasbela district.Commercial Poultry Farming has now become more popular and advanced in terms of control sheds. Poultry rearing in environmental control environment is highly profitable venture for producing huge quantity of poultry meat for export.Therefore, Investors are invited to explore this area in order to produce huge quantity of poultry meat for export.
